| FOSTER HOMES ALWAYS NEEDED If you're an animal lover, fostering is a wonderful way to make a difference in the life of a "throw away" pet. Many of these animals have been through unimaginable hardships in their lives and are so loving to those that first show them kindness and love. Yes, it will probably be difficult to say good bye when the day comes for them to move on to their new "forever" home....but you will have the satisfaction of knowing what a big part you played in turning this animals life around and giving it a chance at having a second chance in life. Because of foster homes,....many animals that would otherwise have to die, have the opportunity to find a new "best friend" because the foster home bought it time.....and time is what it takes to find the perfect place for each of these dogs and cats. Who needs foster care? The animals in greatest need of foster care and rehabilitation are: Older dogs/cats Dogs/cats with health problems Mothers and litters (Fostering a litter is a great way for your family to experience raising pups or kittens without adding to the pet overpopulation problem.) There are other reasons, one is perhaps if an animal is without a place to go and owners are moving. New homes welcome We are always in need of new foster homes....often times we loose some of our best homes, when "one too many" foster animals are taken in......and the foster home decides they cannot let them go. We are not able to give precise times that the animal may need to stay with you. Sometimes only a few days, sometimes weeks, and in some cases it may take a few months to find that perfect place for the pet. If at any time, you feel you can not longer keep the pet, we will do our very best to find another foster home for the animal as quickly as we can. You will never be "stuck" with a foster animal. We do have a foster agreement that you can fill out and e-mail to us if you think you'd like to help make a difference in the life of a "throw away" pet. SAYING GOOD BYE This is never easy once you've mended the broken hearts and put all the pieces back in place on these poor creatures. It is hard to say "good bye", but so rewarding when you know you were such a big part in saving the life of this animal that is now going on into a new home where they too will show it love and give it the best of care. When fostering you need to always remember that there is yet another in need waiting just outside your door once this one is gone.......that is in great need of your help just as the one that you are now saying "good bye" to was when it came to you.....Keep pictures to remember them by and you will always feel a swelling of pride as you look back and see all of those that you alone made such a difference in their lives. What does it take to be a foster parent? In three words.....It takes love, patience and time. You must have a love for animals, patience without end, and the time to spend working with a dog that needs you. Also needed: A securely fenced yard. At least one person home most of the time (or at least if working, home at lunchtime) An uncarpeted room or crate is helpful for housetraining, if needed. Food, dishes, toys, leash and collar. Some knowledge of canine behavior or training is always helpful.
